Found an item? Your responsibilities

What to do when you find someone else's property — your responsibilities and how to return it safely.

Found something in Florida Keys? Handling it responsibly protects both you and the owner. Rules vary by location, but the principles are consistent.

  1. Make a reasonable effort to find the owner. Check for ID, contact details, or anything that identifies who it belongs to.
  2. Don't assume it's yours to keep. Keeping found property without trying to return it can have legal consequences. When in doubt, hand it in.
  3. Hand valuables to the authorities. Report significant or high-value finds to the police non-emergency line for Florida Keys; they'll log it and may issue a reference.
  4. Store it safely. Keep the item secure and unchanged while you try to return it.
  5. Post a found listing. Add a found-item listing for Florida Keys with enough detail for the real owner to identify it — while holding back one verifying detail.

Found Hats near Mallory Square, Key West

I found a small collection of Hats tucked under a bench near Mallory Square in Key West around 6:45 p.m. They range from a sporty baseball cap to a sunhat and a knit beanie, with tags still attached. I can imagine someone missing them after a day at Duval Street or sunset at Mallory Square, so I kept them safe until the right owner steps forward. If these belong to you, please connect through the site to be reunited.

Sunburst Taylor GS Mini found with sea-turtle strap

I found a sunburst Taylor GS Mini acoustic guitar this afternoon around 3:15 pm behind Sloppy Joe's on Duval Street in Key West. It's a compact 22-inch guitar in decent condition, with a blue seashell sticker on the pickguard and a reef-themed strap. The back has a couple light scratches, but it sounds bright when I strummed a quick chord. This instrument seems to belong to a local musician or visitor who surely has it for sentimental value, and I'm hoping to get it back to its owner.

Found Anker 20000mAh power bank in Key West

I found a black Anker PowerCore 20000mAh portable charger this morning around 10:15am near Mallory Square in Key West. It’s in good condition with a slight chip on the bottom corner and a blue USB-C cable plugged into the port. There’s a small pineapple sticker on the back and the battery indicator shows two lights. It looks like it belonged to someone traveling through the Florida Keys, so I’m hoping to get it back to its owner. If this is yours, DM me with the color of the attached cable and the sticker detail to verify and we can arrange pickup near Duval Street or the ferry terminal in Key West.

Navy blue 28-inch suitcase with red tag

I found a navy blue 28-inch hard-shell suitcase this afternoon around 2:45pm in the parking lot behind Sloppy Joe's on Duval Street, Key West. It's a Samsonite brand with a bright red luggage tag that has the initials 'KG' scratched on it, plus a small tropical-sticker set on the corner. The case shows a few scuffs from travel but the wheels roll smoothly and the zippers are intact. I can only imagine someone worrying about it—it's clearly been on a long trip and probably holds clothes and maybe some travel keepsakes. If this is yours or you know who it belongs to, I’d love to help get it back to you.

Midnight blue wireless earbuds in charging case

I found a pair of wireless earbuds this morning around 8:15am outside the Seaport area along Duval Street in Key West, Florida Keys. The charging case is midnight blue with a small dent on the bottom corner and a red sticker with the initials MK on the back. The buds are matte black with a thin white ring around the edge and a couple of light scratches from being jostled in a pocket. They look newer, and I really hope to help the owner get them back — if this sounds like yours, tell me where you last used them and what the sticker says, and we can arrange a meetup.

Gray Nike sneakers with blue star sticker

I found a pair of gray Nike running sneakers this afternoon around 3:45pm near the Key West Historic Seaport ferry terminal in the Florida Keys. They’re men’s size 9, gray mesh with a black swoosh, and a faint salt-water smell from the walk along the seawall. A blue star sticker sits on the outside heel of the right shoe, and the left lace tip is frayed with blue thread. They’re in decent condition overall, just a bit muddy from the waterfront. If you lost these, please email me at [email protected] with identifying details like the sticker or lace to prove ownership. I’d love to reunite them with you.
