Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in Flint, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around Flint and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for Flint so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

Lost canines near downtown Flint

I was walking the Flint River Trail behind Cathedral Park around 7:30 pm yesterday when my two dogs bolted and disappeared into the dusk. Scout, a wiry grey terrier with a white blaze, and Willow, a friendly black lab mix, are curious and fearless, and I panicked when they slipped their collars and ran toward the river. I chased along the path toward the old Buick factory area, but the trail winds and I lost sight of them. It would mean the world to have them back safe—these dogs are family, and the house feels quiet without their barking. If you saw them or know where they are, please share through the site so I can bring them home.

Red nylon dog collar with name tag

I lost my red nylon dog collar with a small silver name tag yesterday around 3pm near the Starbucks on S. Saginaw St in downtown Flint. It's a lightweight adjustable collar, size small, with a blue reflective stripe and a tiny paw-print charm on the buckle. The name tag reads 'Milo' and has the phone number (555) 012-3456 engraved. This collar was a gift from my sister when Milo joined our family, so it's got sentimental value and I really need it back.

Brown-and-white Syrian hamster, pink nose, lost near Flint Farmers' Market

I lost my brown-and-white Syrian hamster yesterday around 3pm near the Flint Farmers Market on East 1st Street. He was in a small translucent travel carrier when he slipped out and darted toward the vendor stalls by the entrance, vanishing behind some planters. He’s about 5 inches long with soft brown and white fur and a pink nose. There’s a tiny white heart-shaped patch on his chest, and his left ear is a little folded, which makes him a bit easier to spot if you see him scurrying around a crate or wheel. This little guy is my daughter’s pet and means the world to us; we’re really hoping for his safe return. If you’ve seen him, email me at [email protected].
