It's a small, handmade toy train my grandfather gave me years ago, with a green body and a tiny red caboose—not valuable to anyone but priceless to me. I had paused there after a short rehearsal to tidy up when a gust swept a few receipts and the toy rolled away. I retraced from the Eugene Amtrak station toward the library courtyard, then along Oak Street, but the evening lights blurred my search. My heart sank realizing I’d probably left it behind.
