Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in Erie, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around Erie and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for Erie so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

Two dogs missing after Bayfront walk

I lost my two dogs after a quick walk near the Bayfront Connector by the Erie Maritime Museum this evening at 6:45 PM. They bolted when a car alarm backfired and I couldn’t keep up with them as they dashed through the parking lots and along Holland Street. Niko is a small wiry terrier with black and white fur; Luna is a larger German Shepherd mix with tan and black markings. I’ve been looping the area, calling their names and texting friends to spread the word. They’re my whole world, and I’m terrified they’ll be cold and frightened out there.

Leopard gecko with blue dot, lost near State Street

I lost my leopard gecko yesterday around 3pm. It's a small, sandy-yellow gecko about 4 inches long, with darker brown spots and a tiny blue diamond-shaped mark on its left hip, plus a nick on the tip of its tail. I last had him in my apartment on 4th Street near Perry Square in downtown Erie, and I've been worried sick since he vanished from under the kitchen sink while I was chasing after him. He's a little shy but holds a big personality; I adopted him last year and he means a lot to me. If you see him, please reach out; he's more than just a pet, he's family.

Lost blue parakeet with yellow beak and small grey leg band near the park in Erie.

I last saw my blue parakeet around the park near Erie yesterday afternoon. He often flies a little close to the trees but usually comes back when I call him. I’m really worried he may have gotten lost or hurt. He has a yellow beak and a small grey band on his leg. Please help me find my little friend!
