Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in Eastern NC, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around Eastern NC and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for Eastern NC so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

Grey tabby cat with green collar, lost near Harris Teeter

Hi there, I’m in Greenville, NC, and yesterday around 3pm my grey tabby slipped out from the apartment near the Harris Teeter on Evans Street. He’s a soft grey cat with slightly darker stripes, a tiny white heart-shaped patch on his chest, and a green collar with a small silver bell that jingles when he moves. He’s a bit shy with new people but incredibly affectionate once he knows you. I’ve been calling his name and walking the River Walk and the Cypress Court area, hoping to spot him near the parking lot behind the store. He has long white whiskers and tends to curl up in sunny spots. If anyone spots him, please text or call me with a photo or location. This cat is part of my family and I’d really appreciate getting him back home soon.

Beagle mix with blue bandana and heart charm

I lost my beagle mix yesterday around 3pm after stopping at the Walmart on Arlington Boulevard in Greenville, Eastern NC. She's about 28 pounds, black and tan with a white chest, short coat, floppy ears, and a crescent scar on her right ear, and she was wearing a blue-striped bandana with a tiny silver heart charm. I last saw her near Walmart, but she could’ve wandered toward the Town Common or Evans Street since then. This rescue dog means the world to me, and I’m really hoping for a safe return—please email [email protected] or text 555-0101 if you’ve seen her.
