Found an item? Your responsibilities

What to do when you find someone else's property — your responsibilities and how to return it safely.

Found something in East Anglia? Handling it responsibly protects both you and the owner. Rules vary by location, but the principles are consistent.

  1. Make a reasonable effort to find the owner. Check for ID, contact details, or anything that identifies who it belongs to.
  2. Don't assume it's yours to keep. Keeping found property without trying to return it can have legal consequences. When in doubt, hand it in.
  3. Hand valuables to the authorities. Report significant or high-value finds to the police non-emergency line for East Anglia; they'll log it and may issue a reference.
  4. Store it safely. Keep the item secure and unchanged while you try to return it.
  5. Post a found listing. Add a found-item listing for East Anglia with enough detail for the real owner to identify it — while holding back one verifying detail.

Theatre tickets on blue lanyard near Cambridge Station

I found a pair of theatre tickets this afternoon around 3:15pm, lying on the pavement just outside Cambridge Station in East Anglia. They’re for a show at the Cambridge Arts Theatre this coming Saturday, attached to a blue lanyard with a small white logo. The cards are navy with gold foil text and show seat numbers B12 and B13; one ticket has a light coffee stain along the back edge. If you recognize them, drop me a message and I’ll help get them back to you—I know how disappointing it would be to miss your night out.

Key set on neon green lanyard with brass tags

I found a set of keys this afternoon around 4:15pm outside Cambridge Train Station, near the taxi rank and the little coffee van. They're on a bright neon green fabric lanyard that's a bit frayed, with a silver house key, a larger brass skeleton key, and a tiny black USB drive rattling at the end. There's a small brass dog tag engraved with 'MJK' and a red plastic tag marked 'Flat 3B'—two details that might help the owner identify them. They seem in decent shape, and I'd be really glad to return them—let me know the lanyard or tag details and we can meet near the station.

Navy hoodie with lime-green zipper, found near Cambridge Market

I found a navy hoodie with a bright lime-green zipper this afternoon around 4pm outside the Cambridge Market on Sidney Street, Cambridge, East Anglia. It's a unisex size M, cotton-poly blend, a bit soft from wear, and it has a tiny fox embroidery on the left sleeve with white drawstrings that have faded a bit. There's a faint coffee stain near the pocket, but otherwise it's in decent condition. It's a casual piece, probably from someone's everyday wardrobe. I figured someone might be missing it after the lunchtime crowds, so I'm putting this up here in case it's theirs. If this is yours, send me a message and we can sort out getting it back.

Teak coffee table with glass top

I found a mid-century teak coffee table with a glass top this afternoon around 3:15pm, tucked behind the Cambridge Market Square near the Grand Arcade in East Anglia. It's about 90 cm long, 45 cm wide, and 40 cm tall, with a warm honey-brown finish and visible teak grain; the glass top is intact, with just a tiny edge nick on the underside corner. There's a small dent on the front left leg and a faded handwritten sticker on the underside that reads 'Cam-7'. It seems like something someone might be missing, so I’m happy to return it if it’s yours—send me a message here and we can arrange pickup in Cambridge.

Found bright green budgie with blue tail

I found a bright green budgie this afternoon around 3:45pm in Castle Meadow, Norwich, East Anglia. It's palm-sized, with a yellow head, green body, blue tail, and small blue patches on the wings. It wears a blue leg band and has a tiny chip on its left leg—hard to read the numbers from here. I noticed it hopping near the bandstand by the riverside and I grabbed it to keep it safe. If you think this is yours, drop a message through this listing and we can arrange a handover.
