Lost something on public transport?

How to track down an item left on a bus, train, tram, or taxi by contacting the right transport operator.

Items left on buses, trains, trams, and taxis around Detroit Metro are usually handed in to the operator's lost property team — the trick is contacting the right one quickly.

  1. Identify the operator. Note the route, line, or company and the rough time. Each operator runs its own lost property process.
  2. Submit a lost property report. Use the operator's online form or phone line as soon as possible; recovered items are logged against your description.
  3. For taxis and rideshare, contact the driver or company directly through your booking or app receipt.
  4. Keep your reference. Save any report number so you can chase it up.
  5. Post a listing. Add a listing for Detroit Metro in case a fellow passenger picked it up.

Lost student ID near Campus Martius Park, Detroit.

I lost my student ID yesterday around 5:12 PM while walking from Campus Martius Park toward Grand Circus Park in downtown Detroit. I had paused to snap a quick photo by the fountain, and I must have dropped it near a gray metal bench by the path. The card has my photo, university logo, and my student number, and it unlocks doors to the library and several campus buildings, so losing it throws my schedule into chaos. Finals are coming up, and I'm anxious about getting it replaced in time. If someone found it, I’d be incredibly grateful to have it returned.

Lost power tools

Hi, I'm Alex Rivera. I was unloading a trailer in downtown Detroit around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, near the Renaissance Center along Jefferson Avenue, when I discovered my power tools had vanished from the truck bed. The set includes a cordless drill, a circular saw, and a weathered tool bag with a few spare batteries. I rely on these tools for my jobs, so losing them hurts my day-to-day; they’re my livelihood, and I'm hoping they’re safe somewhere nearby, perhaps tucked away in the hustle around Eastern Market.

Lost handheld game console at DTW Terminal A.

I realized I must have left my handheld game console behind last Saturday around 9:20 p.m., at Detroit Metropolitan Airport, Terminal A, near the Food Court by Gate 12. It's in a blue case with a cracked screen protector, loaded with a few favorite games. I’ve retraced my steps, checked the lounges and gates, and asked staff, but I haven’t found it yet. This device means a lot to me, not just for travel but for a little escape during long days.

Lost Action Figures near Detroit Metro Airport

Sunday around 9:15 PM I was in my hotel room near Detroit Metro Airport, Terminal A, when I realized two action figures were missing from my dresser. The figures are a bright-red Iron Man with a shiny suit and a small green alien with a dented helmet. They’re tiny, but they mean a lot to me because they remind me of trips and the chance finds that make travel feel personal. I kept them on display by the TV, and I must have left them when I packed for an early flight. If someone turned them in, I’d be grateful to have them back.

Lost silver studs at DTW.

I lost my silver studs at Detroit Metropolitan Airport, McNamara Terminal, around 9:15 AM on Tuesday, as I rushed to catch a flight. They slipped off my ears when I turned a corner near Gate A6 and disappeared into the bustle. They’re small silver studs with pale blue stones; they were a gift from my grandmother, and their absence feels like a hollow in my day. I retraced steps past the newsstand and souvenir shop, but the crowd swallowed any clues. It’s hard not to worry they’ll stay lost until someone else finds them. I hope they’re returned through the site.

Lost sunglasses case with Ray-Ban sunglasses

A SWING sunglasses case (color black) containing 2 items: - clip-on shades (color black) - women's Ray-Ban sunglasses (color black). The images I shared are ones that I found online and they most resemble the items that were lost. The case was lost somewhere along Brush St. and Gratiot Ave. in Detroit.
