Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in Brainerd, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around Brainerd and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for Brainerd so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

Yellow-green budgie with red leg band

I lost my yellow-green budgie yesterday around 4:15pm. He's from PetSmart, about 6 inches long, with a bright green body and a yellow head; there’s a bit of feather wear on the tail from last week’s wind. We named him Sunny, and he’s been a real bright spot since we got him last summer. Last seen near the Brainerd Public Library on 2nd Street by the walking bridge over the Mississippi. He wears a red leg band and has a tiny blue patch on his left wing, and he responds to a whistle when I call his name. This bird is special to us—please reach out if you spot him; we’re really hoping to bring him home.

Blue-green budgie with yellow belly, missing near Brainerd Library

I lost my blue-green budgie Milo yesterday around 3pm near the Brainerd Public Library on Willow Street. He’s a small parakeet about 6 inches tall, mostly blue-green with a sunny yellow belly and a tiny white patch on his right wing. He wears a blue leg band with the number 12 etched on it and has a tiny star-shaped clip on his tail feathers that glitters when the sun hits him. He’s very friendly and responds to his name, and my daughter is heartbroken; Milo has been part of our family for years. If anyone spotted him fluttering around the library or the nearby parks, please let me know. I’d be incredibly grateful to get him back.
