Lost your phone? Step-by-step recovery

Carrier contacts, Find My / Find My Device, and the local steps to recover or secure a lost phone.

Losing your phone in Bozeman is stressful, but acting quickly improves your odds of getting it back and limits the damage if it's gone for good. Work through these steps in order.

  1. Locate it remotely. Use Find My (iPhone) or Find My Device (Android) from another phone or computer to see the phone on a map, play a sound, and mark it as lost. Lost Mode locks the device and shows a contact message on the screen.
  2. Lock and message it. If it's nearby, the sound may be enough. If it isn't, enable Lost Mode and add a phone number where you can be reached.
  3. Call your carrier. Report the phone lost so they can suspend service and block the IMEI. This stops anyone running up charges and flags the handset across networks.
  4. Change key passwords. Update your email, banking, and social passwords, especially if the phone wasn't locked. Sign the device out of those accounts where you can.
  5. Report it locally. File a report with the police non-emergency line for Bozeman — a crime reference number is often required for insurance claims.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-phone listing for Bozeman so anyone who finds it can reach you privately.

Keep checking the map periodically — a phone that's off may reappear when it's charged.

Lost memory cards by Bozeman Public Library

Hey there, I’m Kai Summers. I last used my two SD cards in a brown leather case after a sunset shoot by the Bozeman Public Library around 5:25 PM on Tuesday. I was on Main Street, leaning on the library steps while I sorted through shots of the mountains, and I think the case slipped from my lap when I stood up. They contain photos from Yellowstone and a family moment I can’t recapture, so I’m hoping they’re found by someone honest. If you picked up a small leather case with two SD cards, please keep it safe until it’s returned to the right hands.

Black Anker speaker with red bumper

I lost my black Anker Bluetooth speaker yesterday around 3pm near the Starbucks on Main Street in Bozeman. It's palm-sized, about 3 inches tall, and it has a bright red silicone bumper. The back has a small sticker with a blue mountain logo and my initials 'PP' in white. It's a bit scuffed from a few drops, but it still works fine. It was a gift from my sister and has sentimental value to me; I really need it back. If you found it, email [email protected] and we can arrange a return.

Lost black JBL portable Bluetooth speaker with scratches, in a gray pouch with a red zipper at Cooper Park.

I lost my black JBL portable Bluetooth speaker at Cooper Park in Bozeman during a picnic with friends last Sunday. It has a few scratches on the side and still works perfectly. It was in a gray pouch with a red zipper. If you find it, please reach out. I really miss it!
