Lost your phone? Step-by-step recovery

Carrier contacts, Find My / Find My Device, and the local steps to recover or secure a lost phone.

Losing your phone in Ashtabula is stressful, but acting quickly improves your odds of getting it back and limits the damage if it's gone for good. Work through these steps in order.

  1. Locate it remotely. Use Find My (iPhone) or Find My Device (Android) from another phone or computer to see the phone on a map, play a sound, and mark it as lost. Lost Mode locks the device and shows a contact message on the screen.
  2. Lock and message it. If it's nearby, the sound may be enough. If it isn't, enable Lost Mode and add a phone number where you can be reached.
  3. Call your carrier. Report the phone lost so they can suspend service and block the IMEI. This stops anyone running up charges and flags the handset across networks.
  4. Change key passwords. Update your email, banking, and social passwords, especially if the phone wasn't locked. Sign the device out of those accounts where you can.
  5. Report it locally. File a report with the police non-emergency line for Ashtabula — a crime reference number is often required for insurance claims.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-phone listing for Ashtabula so anyone who finds it can reach you privately.

Keep checking the map periodically — a phone that's off may reappear when it's charged.

Lost remote controls near Ashtabula Harbor

Hi, I'm Emily Carter. I'm in Ashtabula, Ohio. I lost my remote controls last Saturday around 6:45 p.m., while I was out for a walk along the Ashtabula Harbor. I stepped outside to enjoy the lake breeze and, when I got back, the remotes were gone from the coffee table by the window. They’re black, with one showing a small dent on the corner and the other a blue power button that still glows when the TV is on. It would mean a lot to get them back because I use them every night to switch between channels and mute the commercials. If you found them around the harbor or the marina, please hold onto them until I can confirm on the site.

Black iPhone 12 with blue butterfly sticker

I lost my black iPhone 12 yesterday around 3pm after grabbing a coffee at Java Junction on Main Street in Ashtabula. It's in a clear silicone case and has a small blue butterfly sticker on the back, with the screen cracked in the lower-left corner. I probably dropped it near the crosswalk by the Ashtabula Public Library on Lake Street, or somewhere along Harbor Street while I retraced my steps. This phone holds photos from family trips and a few work notes, so it's really sentimental and I'm worried about losing them. If anyone found it, please reach out through the app — I'd be forever grateful to get it back.

Black Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones, dented earcup

I lost my black Sony WH-1000XM4 wireless headphones yesterday around 3pm near the Ashtabula Public Library on West Jefferson Street. They're in a gray hard-shell case, with a small white Sony logo on the top, and the headphones are black with a matte finish and a noticeable dent on the right earcup. On the left earcup there's a tiny cat sticker that says 'Mochi', and the blue fabric carrying pouch included with them has a zipper that sticks a bit. These were a gift from my sister and I use them every day for work from home, so I'm really hoping someone picked them up and will return them.

Coral Nintendo Switch Lite with gray case

I lost my coral Nintendo Switch Lite yesterday around 3pm near the Starbucks on Main Street in Ashtabula. It’s in a gray silicone case with a small star sticker on the back and a screen protector peeling at the corner. It means a lot to me—it was a gift from my sister, and I use it almost every evening after work. The screen looks fine, but the left joystick feels a bit loose and there’s a faint scratch along the top edge. If anyone picked it up, I’d really appreciate getting it back.
