Lost something on public transport?

How to track down an item left on a bus, train, tram, or taxi by contacting the right transport operator.

Items left on buses, trains, trams, and taxis around Asheville are usually handed in to the operator's lost property team — the trick is contacting the right one quickly.

  1. Identify the operator. Note the route, line, or company and the rough time. Each operator runs its own lost property process.
  2. Submit a lost property report. Use the operator's online form or phone line as soon as possible; recovered items are logged against your description.
  3. For taxis and rideshare, contact the driver or company directly through your booking or app receipt.
  4. Keep your reference. Save any report number so you can chase it up.
  5. Post a listing. Add a listing for Asheville in case a fellow passenger picked it up.

LOST Sheet Music near Pack Square Park, Asheville

I LOST Sheet Music this afternoon around 3:15 p.m. after a short busking session near Pack Square Park in downtown Asheville. The folder is tan leather, with a few creases and pencil marks along the margins. I tucked it under my arm while packing up and then paused to tie my shoes; by the time I turned back, the folder was gone. I walked from the River Arts District to Pack Square, checked a bench by the fountain, and spoke to a couple of locals who were kind enough to help, but no one had seen it. Those pages hold pieces for an upcoming recital, and I feel anxious every time I think about them being misplaced. If it turns up, I’ll be checking every coffee cart and crosswalk I passed.

Lost travel visas near Pack Square Park, Asheville.

I was at Pack Square Park in downtown Asheville around 9:10 AM last Wednesday when I realized my travel visas were missing from a brown leather folder inside my tote. They’re essential documents for an upcoming trip and contain identifying details, so this is stressing me out a lot. I retraced from the park toward the French Broad River Greenway, but I didn’t find them. If anyone has seen them, I’d be grateful to get them back; they’re not replaceable.

lost Holiday Decorations in Asheville, North Carolina

I lost my Holiday Decorations while helping decorate the downtown Asheville display near Pack Square Park at 7:15 PM last Tuesday. They were a jumble of handmade ornaments, strings of lights, and a faded wooden star that always topped our tree. My kids waved goodbye as they left with their coats on, and I felt a pang of frustration when the crowd swelled and the carols swelled in the air. If someone found them, I hope they’re treated with kindness, because these pieces carry our family's traditions and the memory of winters we shared in this mountain town.

Navy parka with mountain embroidery

Lost my navy blue The North Face parka, size L, yesterday around 3pm. It’s knee-length with a detachable faux-fur hood, and the navy fabric shows a few salt stains from the rain, but it's otherwise in good shape. On the left sleeve there’s a small embroidered mountain range patch, and the main zipper pull is a tiny compass—easy to spot if you’re searching. It was a gift from my sister and means a lot to me; I really need it back. I was wearing it downtown, when I stepped into a coffee shop near Pack Square and I must have left it somewhere around Battery Park Book Exchange on Battery Park Ave.

Calico cat with bell collar, lost near Rankin Ave

I lost my calico cat yesterday around 3pm. She's a medium-sized girl with a mostly orange-black calico coat, white chest, and a tiny white tuft under her chin. She wears a red collar with a small brass bell and has a distinct notch in her left ear and a heart-shaped white patch on her throat. I last saw her near Battery Park Book Exchange on Rankin Ave in Asheville, darting toward the alley behind the Odditorium. She's my baby and really means the world to me; I adopted her last year and she's become part of the family; I'm so worried and missing her.

Gold-tone earrings: moon charm + opal drop

I lost my gold-tone Kendra Scott earrings yesterday around 3pm outside Battery Park Book Exchange on Page Ave in downtown Asheville. They’re small studs—about a half-inch—with one moon charm on the left and a tiny opal drop on the right, so they’re easy to tell apart if you find them. They came in a little black velvet pouch with the Kendra Scott logo, and I wore them that day with a navy sweater. They’re a gift from my mom and mean a lot to me, so I’m really hoping someone picked them up and didn’t realize the value. If you’ve seen them, please drop me a note; I’d be grateful to meet up and get them back.
