Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in Annapolis, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around Annapolis and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for Annapolis so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

Lost felines near Annapolis City Dock

I’m posting this because my two cats slipped out when the back gate rattled open after sunset. On Friday at 7:15 p.m., I last saw them near the Naval Academy Gate 4 area, just above the water by the City Dock. One is a shy gray tabby with a white patch on his chest; the other is a small calico with bright green eyes. They’ve lived with me since they were kittens, and I’m worried they’ll wander farther if I don’t find them soon. I’ve checked the paths behind Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts and along the marina, calling their names and tapping a familiar tuna tin on the ground. I’m heartbroken and missing them terribly, hoping a friendly neighbor spots them tonight.

LOST: Hamsters near City Dock

I was tidying up after dinner last night around 6:50 p.m. when the cage door swung open and my two hamsters vanished into the alley near City Dock in Annapolis. I called and coaxed them with their favorite carrot treat, but the harbor breeze carried their tiny squeaks away and into the shadows. The white hamster with gray patches and the caramel-brown one are skittish and tiny, and I’m miserable thinking they might be frightened and far from home. I checked along Main Street, behind the brick arches by the market, and around the benches near the water, hoping they slipped into a safe nook.

Leopard gecko Moss, orange spots, missing

I lost my leopard gecko, Moss, yesterday around 3pm. He's about 4 inches long, tan with bright orange spots along his back, and his tail is a bit chunky from fat storage. I last saw him near the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium area, behind the Taylor Avenue parking lot in Annapolis. He has a tiny blue dot at the base of his tail and a small diagonal scar behind his left eye from a past scrape. Moss means the world to me—he's been a quiet, comforting presence through a lot, and I’d really appreciate getting him back if anyone spots him.

Green budgie with yellow head, lost in Annapolis

Yesterday around 4pm I lost my green budgie Pico, who flew off from my balcony and vanished near the City Dock on Main Street in Annapolis. Pico is small, about the size of a canary, with a bright green body, a yellow head, and a tiny white patch on his throat. He wears a light blue leg band with the code PICO-07 and has a fluffy tail with a hint of blue. He's very tame and responds to the name Pico when I call, so he might chirp back if you call him. If you found him, email me at [email protected] so we can arrange a meetup near the Annapolis Visitors Center by City Dock.
